A native of Virginia Beach, Kevin Large has been a strong advocate for the elderly and disabled for several decades. His strong background in all areas of the pharmacy and health care fields has provided him the know-how to run a premiere-quality home care business at affordable rates.

Kevin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences from Old Dominion University. He began his career by working as an I.V. Pharmacy Technician for Sentara Home Care. From there, he acted as a Patient Care Coordinator at Critical Care America before taking on the position of Regional Director for First American Home Care. Kevin also acted as a personal caregiver for several clients throughout Southeastern Virginia and, from those experiences, realized the need for a caring, dependable and reasonably priced home health care agency in the Hampton Roads region. In 1997, Kevin founded Health Horizons Home Care, where he is still actively involved in the daily operations of the organization and care of its many clients.

“At an early age, my wife and I both worked in the medical field, so we thought we fully understood home healthcare,” said Kevin. “Little did we know all the dynamics associated with being an actual caregiver! We went on to accept an aunt into our home, while she recuperated from a broken arm and knee replacement – all due to a fall in her house. We thought it was going to be a piece of cake caring for someone we both loved. What we didn’t realize, was how the smallest request for ‘activities of daily living’ could change our family dynamics. Our aunt, who we dearly loved, showed us how difficult it was to maintain that loving relationship and tend to her (in addition to our) everyday needs.”

“Being a caregiver is a very difficult job, and we learned that lesson quickly,” adds Kevin. “We were happy to help our family! But at the same time, we learned more about home care nursing and care giving than anyone could ever learn as an outsider or someone who has never been a caregiver themselves. My caregiving experiences have given me the compassion to help other caregivers. So I started my own family-owned home care nursing agency. From the very beginning of the agency to 14 years later, we still have the same goal at Health Horizons – and that is to care for our patients as though they were our own family members, and to support the family caregivers to make their lives more enjoyable.”

Kevin is an avid supporter and philanthropist of numerous charities and other organizations, including the Alzheimers Assocation, American Cancer Society, American Lung Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Operation Smile and Ramps Across America. He has also been a member of the local Task Forces on Aging in Chesapeake, Norfolk, the Peninsula, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach.
