Carla Begeot

Director of Nursing

Carla Begeot is an extremely well versed and compassionate nurse with over 30 years of experience. A graduate of Trumbull Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her RN degree, Carla started out as a Critical Care Nurse at Youngstown [Ohio] Osteopathic Hospital. From there, she acted as Head Nurse of Saint Mary’s Infant Home, Health Services Administrator for the Chesapeake Correctional Center, and RN for several home health agencies in the Hampton Roads area before joining the Health Horizons team.

“Ever since I was a little girl, I always wanted to be a nurse,” said Carla. “My aunt, who I idolized, was a Navy nurse and I wanted to follow in her footsteps. And, although I’ve worked in many fields of nursing, home care has been the most rewarding because I get to interact with the patient in their own environment. When a person is in their own home, surrounded by the things they’ve come to know and love, they can be themselves and are more at ease. The patient feels more in control and is willing to open up to you. The result is a friendlier and much more enjoyable visit than a medical checkup.” She adds, “I love being able to care for people and help make their day brighter! But when I stop having fun doing so, I’ll know it’s time for me to quit.”

Currently, Carla oversees the nursing responsibilities at Health Horizons, where she also acts as a visiting RN and supervises a full staff of RN’s, LPN’s and nursing assistants. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Ramps Across America, is acting president of the Portsmouth Task Force on Aging, treasurer of the Chesapeake Task Force and a member of the Norfolk Task Force. Carla is also actively involved with the Great Bridge Ruritan Club, a service organization that addresses the needs of seniors and the disabled in our community.
